The Case for Televisions…multiple Televisions

by Jeff Skinner

The time has come for a revolution in America. The explosion of media in the last decade has been incredible. Sixty inch LCD TV’s and Blackberries and IPods pervade our society. Each day brings a new development that makes our TV’s larger and out computers smaller. All of us are addicted to some new technology. It may be video games, texting, web surfing, television, cell phones, Blackberries or IPods, but all of us have some type of techno affliction.

I can understand it. Having the ability to search the web for information on any subject from the comfort of my couch is fantastic. I can watch a movie on my IPod while sitting in the waiting room of my doctor. Who can remember when we did not have a computer in the house? The ability to have instant access to information and answers to questions in a second’s time has become ingrained in this generation.

While I have acknowledged the need for and utilized my home computer for years, it is only recently that I have succumbed to the hand held obsession. This IPod contraption is great, and someday I’ll figure out all the options. I am content for now with non-stop music and a few movies. I may be a novice when it concerns hand held devices but if the topic is home television, I am on the cutting edge.

First, I need to dispel the idea that watching television is a not a productive activity. Some would say that TV watching is a waste of time that could be used doing something more useful. That may well be the case. There are many mindless and unintelligent programs on television and some how they seem to get the highest ratings. At the same time, there are many intelligent, well written and informative programs that entertain and inform us. We need to be selective with our viewing.

Now here is where I am ahead of the curve. In my home I do not have a television in my living room. I have two televisions, two televisions that are watched simultaneously. If watching one TV can be rewarding and constructive, then two must be even more so. Read more.

Americans Innovate In A Popular Reality Tv Program - Catch It On Satellite Tv

by Whitney Alen

Imagination and Creativity! Those are the most critical components behind the popularity of American Inventor, an exciting new reality TV program. You’ll be inspired by watching on satellite TV as ordinary people turn their ideas into breakthrough inventions. American inventor, the name of the show, is a dead giveaway for the general idea – inventions made by entrepreneur Americans – but it doesn’t fully explain the whimsical appeal of the show itself.

Inventing is turned into a sport, as a dozen contestants, selected from hundreds of entrants, attempt to make their invention stand out, each one a wildly different original idea. The program’s format allows for a close understanding of the inventions and the inventors who are making them happen. The group of inventors selected are split up into groups of three, and each show then focuses on one group at a time as the three people compete against one another.

Every competitor is provided a budget of $50,000 dollars to optimize their invention – an amount that can be plenty or insufficient depending on the materials and techniques involved for each tool, product or toy. Some are eliminated during each episode while others advance one step further toward their dream.

A group of savvy British producers are the genius behind this show. It was created by Peter Jones, who participated in a similar version in the UK, and produced by Simon Cowell and the producers of American Idol. Their success with other reality shows should be evidence enough that this show has got a lot to offer. There have been just two seasons thus far, and with any luck they will be back with a third season soon.

The show’s inventions range from the weird to the everyday. Some are so simple and unexpected as to be a real contribution to society. One of the first season’s inventors produced a training vest that helps athletes learn to catch a football, particularly aimed at helping receivers. The product is getting an endorsement from Jerry Rice and will actually get manufactured and be available for purchase in the future.

There are other excellent ideas: Who doesn’t want a clip to use when the lock on a bathroom door is broken? And no doubt the world would benefit from a toilet that stopped the spread of bacteria when it flushed. In season two there was an astounding invention that certainly deserved to win – a convertible, backless bra from inventor Elaine Cato.

Happily, even without winning it still landed a big-brand backer and is available through Maidenform. That’s the beauty of the show – although there is inevitably a single person who is given the title of champion and who carries away a cool million in business resources and support, most of the inventions are clever and useful enough that they are developed into marketable products.

Tv Stars Earn Fat Paychecks

by ajax

It’s given that if you’re a Hollywood star you’re certainly sleeping on fat paychecks. If you thought huge greenback is just in the movies, then it’s time to revise your impressions. Check out the earnings of some top television stars and you’d know that TV is as much a money-spinner as any big budgeted film. Take the stars of FRIENDS for instance. None have a film career worth talking about, but their bank balance remains hefty. The TV series has catapulted them to worldwide success, and earned them a whopping one million dollars per episode in the last two seasons. The stars just started off with a mere $1600 per episode. The success of the program saw their prices skyrocket 600 times in a span of 10 years.

Imagine the kind of revenue the show grosses if the makers can afford to pay the stars such gigantic amounts. These shows have an audience appeal that beats anything on big screen. Multiple-award winning show Grey’s Anatomy has been an audience favorite since it started in 2005. Katherine Heigl who plays Dr Izzie Stevens in the show, was among the top 20 highest paid actresses. Who needs movies when TV can give you fame and money? Ask Eva Longoria Parker, another actress featuring in the same elite list, or her Desperate Housewives co-star Teri Hatcher, who’s reportedly earning a whopping $285,000 per episode. They’d vouch for television any day.

International supermodel Tyra Banks’ date with fame hasn’t halted even after she delved into television shows. Hosting America’s Next Top Model and The Tyra Banks Show has raked in big moolah for the modeling queen. She tops the list of highest paid actresses with earnings of $23 million a year. Money in television has been big for some time now. The stars of Seinfeld (1989-1998) experienced fortune pouring down after the humongous success of the show. Jerry Seinfeld accompanies the Friends stars in the million-dollar club, since his pay packet matched theirs in the final season of the show.

Television shows of every genre reach out to the audience in diverse ways. Apart from usual daytime space on TV, they are found on Internet TV and DVDs in the market. The makers have multiple ways of making sure they sell their shows to an audience that adores their conception so much.
